Clara Chon is a Korean-born artist, raised in Aotearoa and now based in New York City. For Clara, making art is an existential practice inseparable from living, with each day unfolding as an ongoing act of translation and repair. Working across painting, sculpture, leatherwork, and upcycling, her fluid, multidisciplinary practice is fundamentally rooted in a DIY ethos that embraces creative autonomy as a form of critical resistance.
Clara’s work exists across diverse contexts, from galleries to fashion editorials to mass media. Previous exhibitions include Te Moana Meridian (in collaboration with Sam Tam Ham), Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, Portland; Stop The World From Spinning, Knulp Gallery, Sydney; and Tomorrow People, Adam Art Gallery, Wellington.
Her work has been highlighted in publications and broadcast networks such as Interview Magazine, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Popsugar, The X Factor, COMPLEX, Entertainment Tonight, People, Sicky Magazine, VICE, Glamour, and Bustle.
Founded in Paris in 2014 and now based in New York City, Stud & Spike Lab creates one-of-a-kind leather and denim pieces that blur the line between fashion, art, and personal expression. Every jacket, glove, boot, purse, pant, or shoe is designed as a singular work made in collaboration with clients through an iterative design proces—never repeated, always unique.
Inspired by the energy of the 1980s, vintage aesthetics, and the timelessness of leather, the work treats outerwear as a form of self-expression—like a tattoo you can wear and take off. The result is elegant and versatile, moving fluidly between punk, professional, and anywhere individuality is valued.
With more than 300 custom pieces shipped worldwide, Stud & Spike Lab has dressed clients ranging from musicians to everyday wearers who want to express their personality. The collaborative and iterative design process ensures that every client’s vision comes alive, transforming raw material into wearable art.
